With all youth's zestful art ...

There are several recurrent themes in Evelyn’s poetry. Often she hints at aging and looking back on the healthy vigor and zest of youth.

Reminiscing

Burn, old moon,
Your sparkling tune
Upon my graying heart.

I have played,
To music swayed,
With all youth’s zestful art.

Now, day done,
Echoes of fun
Are rayed from memory’s mart.

  1. The great majority of Evelyn's poems were written a assignments for her poetry courses. Her references to aging were precocious, feeling perhaps within herself the resonance with death - her father, her sister, her mother.... She was abandoned to memory when most her age were making memory for future reverie.
